Fall is coming and the weather is getting chilly

Well, the trees are starting to show their fall colors and the weather is getting a bit nippy as well. The valley surely is getting ready for a beautiful pallet of colors this season. Another week and we'll be seeing red, orange and gold.

Sunday afternoon!

It's Sunday afternoon and we're sipping iced tea on the front porch without a care in the world. Wouldn't that be nice. With the economy having trouble and finances tight, this porch is as close to care free as I can get. So I'm taking advantage of this beautiful afternoon and I'm gonna read up on all the articles I've been missing out on.

A day to remember

I think of all the days that have passed in my life and realized that today is the day to reflect on where my next journey will be in life. Starting in New York at birth, grew up in Las Vegas, moved when I finally came of age to California. There I sat until I traveled over 3600 miles to New Hampshire to this wonderful Inn.

Overall, my days have been fulfilled. So today will be my special day, at least until I see what tomorrow brings.

Enjoy life, it's too short not to!

Dog Days of Summer

Summer has arrived and theirs music in the air. Maybe not music, but you know what I mean. It's so beautiful it makes you want to sing. Well maybe not sing, or at least not our singing.

We've been doing a little geocaching in the valley and it's great to get out in the fresh air. Mitch and I have been working on getting healthier and so far in three weeks: Mitch has dropped 12 pounds and I've misplaced 20 pounds. You know they say if your going to try to diet, don't say I lost pounds. Because we all know when we loose something ,we wind up finding it at some time in the future. So we use the term - got rid of the pounds. More permanent.

So our first adventure was hiking to Sabbaday Falls. And it was beautiful. Next trip is to Diana's bath and Albany Bridge trails on the Kanc. This area is breathtaking and I want to do all I can to take it in.

Thank goodness the Summer has arrived.

Not too hot, just right. Cool breeze and an ice cold lemonade on the front porch will do it every time.

Free Bridge Dance Saturday night in Jackson and music by The White Mountain Boys. What could be better.

I thought Spring had finally arrived!

We thought Spring had arrived until Friday morning to our surprise, the rain that was in the forecast turned into snow. Yes I said snow! We hadn't had snow on the ground up here since the first part of March and April has brought us a little surprise.

Snow Friday and Saturday, and I imagine Sunday will also drop a few snow flakes. Just getting ready to do a little early clean up this weekend by raking and trimming up the bushes. So that project will have to be put off for a little while.

Nothing seems to surprise me in the White Mountain Region. When you think it's over, it comes back to remind you who's boss. I give!

Mondays!

Mondays, they just remind me that I'm facing another 4 days without guests this time of year. Yes, only on the weekends does this house come alive.

We're working on our recipes for the Inn to Inn Herb Tour the association is sponsoring the weekend og June 5th and 6th. And another event this year will be the Inn to Inn Poker run for charity, benefitting the Make a Wish Foundation. We're holding the event for nine days through Bike Weekn in New Hampshire. It's our first charity event and we're really excited to be working with such a special foundation.

Spring clean up will start next week and the winter, though short has left a mess behind. It's a raking we will go ! Trim the hedges, open the pool for the season and we'll be ready for summer before we know it.

I almost miss the early mornings on the front porch watching the snow fall, with a hot cup of chocolate in hand.

Winter is here !

Woke up this morning to a beautiful sight. Fluffy, light, bright white snow! This give the look of the Currier and Ives version of winter, or a perfect setting for a Norman Rockwell painting.

Skiing is going strong with 12 to 36 inches of snow in the last 48 hours. Wildcat is reporting record skiiers this season and the slopes are wonderful.

With Spring around the corner and summer rapidly following we have many things going on at the Inn. Herb tour in June, the Poker Run in June, Geocaching this spring that will run through the fall season, new adventure packages this summer and we're excited because this year is the Inns 120 th Anniversary.

Come celebrate with us!

Monday morning

Okay, why is it that there is a holiday on the West Coast today for Abraham Lincoln's birthday and not here on the East Coast. Didn't the west coast get the memo that the Presidents Day Holiday was combined with Washington's birthday and it is to be celebrated on February 15th. And yes, they also have next Monday as a holiday as well. What's up with that?

Babbling I know, but what else do you do on a Monday? Clean up any mess left from last nights super bowl party or maybe do laundry. Neither sound very exciting and I would like to have something exciting on a Monday to look forward.

Valentines Day is rapidly approaching and the Inn will be full of lovers. Sleigh rides, skiing, romantic dinners are all on the menu. Hope your Valentines Day is all you want it to be.

Peaceful Winter

I'm glad we don't have an excess of snow this winter at the Inn. It can snow all it wants north or south of here. I don't have a problem with the cold to maintain the snow we presently have. I enjoy looking out upon freshly fallen snow, but I don't need that to happen often.

After everything has been cleaned up and pathways are clear, I will go outside and enjoy the winter, but I don't like walking through the mush and ice. The funny thing is I prefer winter over summer. It's easier for me to get warm than to get cool, if that makes sense.

So this weekend I am enjoying two nights of movie mania at our house. One night Mitch will choose the movies to watch and the next night is mine. He is an action movie nut, one that can watch a night of Bruce Willis movies, or maybe all 5 parts of the Godfather. Me, well I am truly a chick flick lover. One in particular is You've got mail. When it's on TV I will watch either at the beginning or if I find out it's on, I will watch even if half the movie is over. Probably seen it 15-20 times and it will be a movie I have on my list for this weekend. The only thing that bothers me about this movie is: When Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are at the outdoor market and Tom is buying a mango and Meg picked up three bushes of something - what was it? And Tom paid for it. Maybe I'll figure that out, so I keep watching. Thought I would share, but if you know the answer - let me know.

Winter

Winter is a time I really enjoy in the mountains. Though I'm not a skiier, I enjoy the beauty of snow covered mountains and fresh fallen snow as it covers the lawn. As you can see, I enjoy being inside watching it snow. Not going out in the cold, but enjoying it's beauty as I sit by the fire sipping hot chocolate.

When we have guests at the Inn, I enjoy sitting on the front porch in the morning chatting about what they are going to do that day.
Romance in the magic of the mountains.
